What is a School Based Family Specialist?

The School Based Family Services Programs is a contractual and collaborative partnership between OKDHS and local school districts.

Through the partnership, School Based Family Services (SBFS) is a school position with the dedicated purpose of providing a human service connection and support to the children and familes served by the school, as well as the school’s teachers and administrators.

The SBFS connects students and their families to local and state resources that can offer help and hope for the family.  This compassionate and professional support helps students navigate out-of-classroom obstacles that would affect their success in the classroom and allows teachers to focus on teaching.  The SBFS makes a signiciant impact on the well being of their communites, improving outcomes and reducing risk factors for the students and familes they serve.
